Registration Begins Sept. 1st for the 2015-2016 Season

PSO Basketball is made up of two leagues that are progressive in nature.  Our rules are designed to help boys and girls learn the game of basketball while having fun in a competitive yet nurturing environment.

Age Determining Dates for 2015-2016 Season

Players must play in the division of their current grade unless they are approved by the league to play up a grade level.  Players are not allowed to play down a grade.  The age determining dates are only used to determine if a player is too old to play with his or her grade and must play up a grade division.  The age determining dates are in line with UIL and TAPPS rules which govern most school athletics in the state of Texas.  The following chart offers a quick reference for determining player eligibility.  Players who do not meet the division criteria for eligibility are not eligible to participate in that division and must play up.  There is no appeal available to the parents nor opportunity for board review.  When two grades are combined to form one division, the higher (older) grade is used for age determination.

Practice Night Devotions

Each team should have a devotion before or after each practice.  If your coach or a team representative is not having a devotion time at practice each week, please contact Brad Freeman at [email protected].

Coaching Application

Head Coaches must register online for free (click HERE) and submit an online volunteer background check.  To begin the background check process, please email Kate Brewer at [email protected] and put "Basketball Coach Background Check" in the subject line.  When you complete the Head Coach registration process you will be able to send a registration email out to your team with a code that will allow the parents of your players to register for your team.  Please read all of the information on the Coach Page.

Assistant Coaches must email Gail Mixon at [email protected] to let her know the team and head coach that they will be assisting.  Assistant Coaches must also submit a background through the process described above for head coaches.  Please read all of the information on the Coach Page.

Submit all other basketball questions to Gail Mixon at [email protected].

Coaches Meeting

Coaches will be required to attend a coaches meeting where a clear message will be provided regarding the mission of the PSO Basketball League, league rules, expectations, etc. All coaches will be expected to attend and sign a statement of understanding. Coaches meeting dates are listed on the Key Dates page.  You must attend one of the mandatory meetings.

Coaching Clinic

Before the season starts we will conduct a coaching clinic for all coaches in our league. During this clinic we will provide suggested drills, plays, strategy and other tips to help you be the best coach, leader and mentor possible for the children and their families.  The coaching clinic will be held in November.  The date has not been set at this time.

Post-Season Tournament

There will be a post-season tournament in the NBA (3rd - 6th grade) divisions.  Participation in this tournament is an added bonus and not a right.  It is not guaranteed that all teams will make it into the tournament (at least 4 teams from each division will qualify for the post-season tournament).  Seeding in this tournament will be determined based on win/loss record during the regular season.  In the event of ties the online standings may not be correct (please check the official rules for tie breaker rules).  Teams will only advance to the post-season tournament if they can field a team of at least 5 players and one coach at the Skills Clinic (please check key dates for date and time).  The tournament is a single elimination tournament.  Failure to attend the Skills Clinic is considered a loss in the tournament.

Game Locations

The goal is to play as many games as possible at Prestonwood North (1001 W. Prosper Trail, Prosper, Texas 75078).  However, some games most likely will be played at our Plano Campus (6801 W. Park Blvd., Plano, TX 75093).  The number of games at each location will be determined by the number of teams in each division along with the amount of space available.  Our NBA divisions (3rd-6th Grade) have a relationship with Bridge Builders teams that travel to us from the Bon Ton area of inner city Dallas.  If coaches in those divisions want to have a game at their location we will work that out.  We usually have 3-4 teams that want to do this and it is a great way for us to help support that ministry.
